Surprise! Suprise! Back again.

I have had a busy summer, what with having our home for sale and trying to stage it.  We haven't sold, but  will continue to try.  Apparently I haven't done enough staging, so will continue watching DIY for ideas.

Here is a painting I did a year ago and now it is that time again.  Hope you like it.
I have discontinued my painting classes,  too much of my time was spent preparing for classes.  Now I am painting however and whatever I want.  Sometimes we have to have our time, but I miss my students.

PAINTING

THE PAINTING BELOW IS A COLLAGE WE WILL BE DOING LATER NEXT MONTH.  WE ARE BUSY PAINTING BIRDS, FLOWERS, AND BUTTERFLIES AND  ADDING THEM TO OUR ALTERED BOOKS, THEY ARE SO MUCH FUN!  EVERYTHING WE PAINT IN CLASS IS MY DRAWINGS AND DESIGNS.  I ENJOY DOODLING, DRAWING AND PAINTING, IN FACT, I APPRECIATE THE MOTIVATION MY STUDENTS GIVE ME TO CREATE.

THE SECOND PICTURE IS ONE OF MY VINTAGE TRAIN CASES THAT I COVERED WITH PRINTS OF MY PAINTINGS AND SCRAPBOOK AND VINTAGE PAPERS USING MOD PODGE( I LOVE-LOVE THAT STUFF).  I WILL USE THE CASE FOR STORAGE OR MAYBE GIVE AS A GIFT.

My painting Classes

Painting classes are in full swing with painting and altering a book.  The class is interested in painting this Paris collage in the near future.  At the present we are working on a birds, flowers, and butterflies altered book.  My, how we are into birds!  We can't stop finding pictures of birds, designing, sketching, and painting them.

SPRING PAINTING

The top painting was done in the early spring, love the colors.  I used a product, Stucco from DecoArt, it adds dimension to the pic.  It was fun to work on and would be a beginner's project, easy but appealing to the artist.    The second painting was done with fall colors and was considered for the painting retreat.  This is a different technique, but also a fun project.

Eyeglass case

I have been painting on glass cases and have many more to paint.  These make wonderful gifts as everyone needs a glass case for reading or sun glasses,  snacks, sewing kit, etc.  The case is a great way to organize your purse.  I plan to get out my bird magazines and draw more birds.  I haven't had time to sketch in my journal, but that is going to change.  When I get the courage, I will show my journal, maybe.   Have a wonderful day.

HOME AT LAST

I have been staying with my granddaughters for a few day while their parents and friends are in Mexico.  They arrived home today, I got home around 4:00 pm and am tired and need to rest a few days.
I want to get in my studio and finish up the kits for the paint-in.  I plan to start that tomorrow.

card for the troops

Ozark Hills Painting Chapter has been working on cards to send to our troops, which is being done by others in the SDP.  This little bird is my contribution to the cause.  I have been working on it for several days and need to do some changes, but I will have it ready by 11 September.   I decided to post this today as I am leaving to stay with my beautiful red haired granddaughters.  It will be like a vacation for me.  Shelby works all day and Shannon goes to school, I will have time to plan some things.   I  plan to work in my sketch journal, as I am a little behind.  I promise I will return Mon. or Tues. and post about my adventures.  Sorry, the picture is blurred.

School starting too early

Today is the first day of school for Jack, my oh my, the summer break was so short! He is in Junior High this year, 7th grade.
Today is a beautiful Thursday, but very hot today. I continue working on my art and filling each day with ideas that I must try. More and more ideas...When I work in the studio time passes so quickly and before I realize Pat calls on the telephone and asks, "Whats for dinner? or When or what do we eat?"
I have started an art journal and will try to add pictures.

Valentine Gift

My husband is so thoughtful, I have been begging for a new camera, sometimes we have to keep reminding them about what we need and so that’s what I got for Valentine’s Day.  I am posting some new pics to see how it compares with the old camera.  These are pictures of boxes and cases I have either painted or decoupaged.

Pat aka Ben

scan0006

This is a picture, I had not see before today, of Pat in the late 50’s a few years before we met.  Cousin Gayle and Grandpa Brandel are in the background.  The first picture below is Pat’s Great-Grandfather Brandel and family.  Second pic, Pat, Ed(his brother) and Great-Grandfather and Great-Grandmother Helton,  last pic, Pat and Kathleen(friend from Texas) on the farm near Brinktown.  I love vintage pictures, don’t you?

TRASH TO TREASURE TUESDAY

P1010023

This is my first trash to treasure this week, a cheese box that I have painted with a large sunflower and checks.  I purchased the box at a rummage sale for $1.00 and presently use to hold Christmas cards received .  My Great-Grandmother Baugh dyed, spun, and wove this wool coverlet.  My sister had the coverlet and due to the poor condition chose to cut into pieces, mat, frame and give to relatives.  I was lucky enough to receive this one.    This is very dear to me and hangs in the hallway of my home.   Sorry about the flash.P1010025

Sunday

P1010008

We had a partly sunny day here in Missouri as witnessed by the picture Pat took from our deck.  If you could see the thermometer it says 46 degrees.  We have a much better view of the river and fields in the winter.  We often see an eagle in this area.  When we hear the crows getting noisy that’s a clue that an eagle may be near.P1010009

This view is looking east of our home, our neighbor’s house can be seen.  The river is on right side of the picture.  P1010010

This picture is northeast of our home and the highway is visible in the picture.  When the leaves are on the trees it is beautiful, but an entirely different looking area.  We haven’t had much snow ,so far this winter, but it isn’t over yet.

Wishing everyone a wonderful week.

Flea Market Finds

P1010020

I wanted to show what I purchased at Bear Ridge Antiques near my home.  The rooster pitcher was $1.50(a good buy).  I will add him to my rooster collection.  Two weeks ago I was wanting to give away all my roosters, I thought I wanted something else in my breakfast room and kitchen.  Apparently I changed my mind and started buying more roosters.  Oh, well  a lady can change her mind.

The carpenter’s ruler  was $1.00 and I will use parts of it in my art.  I was surprised as usually they are priced higher, they have become a collector’s item.

The vintage valentine was in a friend’s booth and I love the colors, the fan is separate from the card .  In the same booth I found a pint jar filled with beads and jewelry.  Almost everything was a keeper, especially the vintage earrings.P1010011 P1010019 P1010018

Oh, I didn’t mention the glass dome.  Wonder what I will do with it?  I will make a glass cloche.  I will have to find a base and some type of glass knob or crystal, maybe an earring for the top.  Next I will find some treasure to display.  See why I am so busy all the time?  Sometimes the answer to my creations come when I think about some treasures I have stowed away from an earlier trip to a flea market, garage sale, or thrift store.

52 Questions and Answers this year

P1150006 P1150002

I am starting a mini journal to give an answer to 52 questions posed by Emily.  This is a challenge I need to motivate me to journal, after all it is only once a week.  Go to her blog and join the challenge.  At the end of the year you will have completed a journal.  Emily suggests using a small journal as you won’t think you need to write and write.  I don’t have any problem talking, but when I write I go blank.

Trash to Treasure Tuesday

P1120015

I purchased these bookends at a yard sale a few years ago for approximately 2.00 and have seen them at antique stores  for much more.  I  think they are keepers.P1120019

I found this at a thrift store recently for 1.00 and now is one of my favorite things.  It is 8 inches tall, just wish I could find one 5 feet tall.  It looks as if it is crooked, it isn’t, just the photographer.P1120021 P1120022

I did some painting(rosemaling) on this vintage sewing machine drawer and keep it in the front hall for letters to be mailed, favorite snapshot of family or old books for display.  Check Diane’s blog for more trash to treasures at http://diane1876.blogspot.com for January 13,2009.
